Duke University researchers Dr. Doug Nowacek and Ari Friedlaender are in Sitka partnering with UAS Jan Straley and PhD student Ellen Chenoweth to look at foraging ecology of humpback whales using digital acoustic tags. The work tags whales and then monitors their movement for 24 hours and will reveal important information about whale bioenergetics, movement and the relationship between these things and human activity.
