BioBlitz is Coming

Hot SSSC News | July, 20, 2012 | by 0 Comments

Bioblitz begins Saturday, August 18th at noon and runs for a full twenty four hours as our community joins together to measure the variety and concentration of lifeforms in Sitka. From sea to mountain peaks, Sitka will document mushrooms, bugs, crabs, whales and seaweed call Sitka home.  There will be many opportunities to join scientists on survey teams and various activities for all ages! By documenting biodiversity in Sitka we can better understand our national treasures like the Tongass National Forest and the North Pacific that make our home so special.

This year’s BioBlitz offers a fun and educational opportunity for the Sitkan community to help scientists perform a rapid (24-hours only!) biological survey of a 7-square mile section of Sitka. Stay tuned for a schedule and details. Meanwhile save the date!
