Researchers from Dr. Pete Raimondi’s laboratory at UCSC, lead in the field by Melissa Miner, are working with researchers from the Sitka Sound Science Center and the University of Alaska Southeast to conduct biodiversity and MARINE protocol surveys of the intertidal at Sage Beach, Kayak Island, and Pirates Cove. This morning they surveyed Kayak Island. Dr. Raimondi is the Chair of the Department of Biology at University of California Santa Cruz and an inaugural fellow in the SSSC Scientist in Residency Fellowship. Taylor White, an intern at SSSC and a senior at Whitman College at Walla Walla, Washington, is conducting her senior thesis research as part of this survey.
