Sitka Sound Science Center offers logistical support for visiting scientists, researchers and field courses. We can provide local expertise and help with arranging boat transport, kayaking, snorkeling, and other field research needs. We have classrooms, microscopes, laboratory, salt and fresh water tanks and water systems, and other scientific equipment for rent.
The microscopes available include:
11 monocular microscopes
9 binocular microscopes
14 dissecting microscopes
And a number of independent light sources for microscopes.
The Science Center maintains an apartment for rent or visiting partners on the Sheldon Jackson Campus. The apartment is an efficiency with in-room bathroom and kitchen. It is in easy walking distance to the Science Center, a grocery store and the amenities of downtown Sitka.
We also rent out bench space all year long. Because of our incredible proximity to the Gulf of Alaska, the Sage Building has a long tradition of serving visiting scientists.
