The Sitka Sound Science Center seeks a Postdoc Fisheries Research fellow. Must have a PhD and experience with RNA/DNA growth models. The postdoc will conduct research study focusing on identifying and qualifying the major ecosystem proceses that regulate recruitment of five commercially important groundfish species in the Gulf of Alaska. The research will focus on parameterizing simple bioenergetics models to estimate potential fish growth in different habitats for juvenile Pacific Ocean Perch, Pacific cod, arrowtooth flounder sablefish and walleye pollock. Requirements: PhD in Fisheries Biology or related field plus six months experience in designing and running fish growth studies involving culturing fish at different temperatures and nutritional levels, performing RNA/DNA ratio and soluble protein assays, as well as pristane extractions on fish tissues and utilizing RNA/DNA ratios from fish tissue to build predictive growth models. Must have graduate level courses in fisheries ecology, oceanography, marine animal physiology, and biochemistry. Full time.
